Breakfasts

Our breakfast menu includes freshly baked bread, jams, a variety of cereals and muesli, yoghurt, fresh fruit, scrambled or fried eggs, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, rice and our famous Japanese soups. One thing's for sure, you won't be going onto the hill hungry.

Hot Drink Stand

Complimentary Japanese and Western teas, coffee and hot chocolate is available any time of the day or night in the dining room.

Dinners

On request, we have several Japanese homestyle dishes that we prepare for whatever time you specify in the evening. Our dinners range from 2500 yen per head (minimum of 8). We do ask that you book in the morning at breakfast. All of our dinners are typical Japanese homestyle Winter dishes perfect for filling and warming the belly.

Jingis Khan
- Named by the Japanese after Ghengis Khan because apparently this is how he ate (or maybe it was the german pop group from the 70s, no one is too sure). Strips of succulent lamb and fresh veges cooked on a flaming iron pan in the shape of a helmet or grilled over charcoal. We do it with a helmet.

Ishikari Nabe
-This is one of Hokkaido's most famous specialties. Crab, scallops, oysters, salmon and prawns thrown in a big pot with tofu and local veges and a Miso broth. Sensational.

Sukiyaki
-Given to kamikaze pilots for their last meal as a great honor because of the then rarity and expense of beef, Sukiyaki is now as synonymous with Japanese cuisine as Sushi. We make it with thin strips of beef, fresh veges and tofu in a soy sauce and mirin broth. Cooked ingredients are dipped in a beaten raw egg which cooks to them (a bit) before being eaten.

Shabu Shabu
-Eaten in a similar style to Sukiyaki, Shabu Shabu also uses beef, tofu and vegetables which are all cooked in a broth. The broth is different, however, made with Konbu, a type of seaweed, and the ingredients are dipped in Ponzu or seasame dressing before being eaten instead of the raw egg. The flavour is more savoury than Sukiyaki which is quite sweet.

Okonomiyaki
-Not quite a pancake, not quite an omlette. But Okonomiyaki is all good. Cooked with prawns, pork, squid or a mixture of all three, this is probably the safest part of the ocean of Japanese food for beginners to have their first dip. The cooked batter and ingredients are smothered in BBQ sauce, mayonaise dry seaweed and little katsuobushi (dried fish that squirm in the pan-heat making the whole dish look like it's alive). Yummy!

Local Delicacies

Live Emperor Oysters
-Humble as we are, these are the best oysters in the world! The world has just begun to open it's eyes to the wonders of Hokkaido powder snow, but for oyster lovers, the snow is nothing compared to these. I say no more. If you like oysters, you're life is incomplete until you've had one of ours.

We also sell incredible smoked salmon, smoked goose and smoked scallops.

In previous years it has been difficult to get into many of the restaurants in the village, especially in peak season when the most popular get booked out more than a week in advance. We recommend you book well beforehand to restaurants you would like to eat at.
We are happy to book these restaurants for you anywhere in the village or in Kutchan town. Please contact us with regards to our recommendations.
